A losing day is information. It is not a character judgment and it is not a reason to “make it back” before the close.
If I skip the write-up, the next session inherits the same mistake with a new story attached. That is how common beginner errors repeat for months.
The four fields I fill the same day
I do this before I look at social media or a new chart.

1. Result in numbers, not adjectives
Not “it was ugly.”
“Two trades. −0.8R and −0.4R. Day −1.2R. Stayed inside the daily loss cap.”
If I cannot state R, I was not sizing. That is a different problem than the setup.
2. Process grade, separate from P&L
A losing trade can be an A. A winning trade can be an F.
A-grade loss: I followed the map, the stop was where I said, I did not add.
F-grade loss: I moved the stop, doubled, or took a market that was not on the list.
The grade is the only part I am allowed to be proud or ashamed of. The money is the scoreboard, not the lesson.
3. Cause in one sentence
I force a single cause. Examples I actually use:
– “Traded inside the do-nothing zone I marked on Sunday.”
– “Entered 20 minutes before a data print I had written on the calendar.”
– “Stop was a round number everyone else could see; I did not give it room I had already budgeted.”
– “I was bored and opened a second name.”
If the sentence starts with “the market,” I rewrite it until it starts with “I.”
4. One rule for the next session
Only one. “Be more disciplined” is not a rule.
Better:
– “No trades in the middle third of last week’s range.”
– “No orders in the 30 minutes around the data print.”
– “One market only until I log five A-grade trades.”
I put that rule at the top of the next day’s page so I see it before the first chart.

What I do not write
– A 900-word essay about my childhood and risk tolerance
– A new strategy invented at 9 p.m.
– A list of ten fixes
The journal guide on this site is the template. The losing-day version is just the template with the ego stripped out.
The only allowed action after the write-up
Close the platform.
If the daily cap was hit, the session is over even if “a beautiful setup” appears. The cap exists because judgment is worse after a hit. That is risk management, not motivation. Details live here: risk management
Tomorrow I am allowed to trade only if field 4 is written. If I cannot produce the rule, I am not done with today.
