Psychology of Trading: Mastering Emotions and Avoiding FOMO

FOMO is not a personality flaw. It is what happens when a moving candle is allowed to vote.

I still feel it. The difference is whether that feeling can send an order. The plan and the checklist exist so the feeling has nowhere to click.

What FOMO looks like on a desk

– Entering after the level already ran, stop now wide, size still “normal”
– Opening a sixth name because the five are quiet
– Cutting a winner so you can “be in” the next impulse
– The sentence “I’ll be quick” on a news spike

None of those start with the weekly map. They start with other people’s results.

Rules that actually cut it

1. If the idea was not on the list this morning, it waits until tomorrow’s map.
2. If I missed the turn, I do not join the middle. I log the miss. Logging it ends the loop better than a late fill.
3. After two wins, size does not increase the same day.
4. After a loss, the next ticket must still pass the checklist “Getting it back” is not a setup.

These are yes/no. “Be calm” is not.

Anger and revenge are the same family

A stopped trade creates a debt in the head. The next chart looks like a way to collect. That is why a daily cap exists. When the cap hits, the platform closes. The losing-day write-up is the only work left.

If you cannot close the platform, the cap is not a rule yet. It is a suggestion.

Boredom

Quiet weeks produce extra tickers. Extra tickers produce F-grade trades that you will call “research.” The five-name list is there to make boredom visible.

What I put in the journal when I feel it

One line: “Wanted the move. Did not have a stop that fit. Passed.”

That line is a win for process even if the market runs. Process grade and P&L grade are not the same thing. See the journal.

You will not delete the feeling. You can delete its access to the ticket.
